The Ozark County Library is a volunteer library that began with a gift of books belonging to Jean Fackler, the daughter of a Chicago family. After her untimely death in 1943, the family searched for an area without a library and chose Gainesville. It is located at 200 S. Elm Street, across the street from the Post Office. The library has always been maintained and operated by volunteers. Currently, the library offers over 20,000 books donated by residents and visitors to Ozark County. There are best sellers, nonfiction books, books written about Ozark County history and early life here as well as a well-stocked children’s corner. In addition, the library offers books on tape, videos and DVD’s. There are two public access computers with wideband service. In the lower level, a used-book sale room helps support the operation of the library. Gainesville
